Marked as the centennial of the original 1896 summer Olympics held in Athens, the 1996 Games was hosted by the US in Atlanta, Georgia.

Big Firsts: Not only was the 1st summer Olympics to be held in a different year than the winter games, but the US topped the metal table for the 1st time since 1984, winning 101 in total.
